    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

After having the chemo port inserted, my mother was only able to receive one chemo treatment. This made her so sick that, when we left the Cancer Center, we had to take her directly to the emergency room of our local hospital. She was unable to undergo anymore treatments due to the sickness and spent the last 4 weeks of her life in the hospital.

    Fluid in the abdomen (ascites)

    Side Effects

The fluid from the tumor caused her abdomen to swell which became very painful her to be moved, etc. The doctor tried draining the abdomen several times but it quickly filled back up. After this, they were unable to drain it anymore

My sister and I had to make the decision about what to do next as far as her care was concerned. She was already advanced to the last stage and there was nothing else that could be done except make her comfortable

    Decision Point

My sister and I decided to bring our mother home on Hospice so that she could be with her 3 dogs and spend time with her family where she would be comfortable and surrounded by her own things.

    Diagnosed

    Oh No

My mother had been sick to her stomach and vomiting after every meal. It took some time for her doctor to actually diagnose the pancreatic cancer

    Lost loved one

    Loss

We lost our beloved mother to a very bad cancer (pancreatic). Throughout her life, she never drank or smoked and always took care of herself. She ate the right things, doctored regularly and was very active (worked up until she was diagnosed). It makes you wonder God chooses the ones he does!

    Hospice

    Other Care

My mother passed at 6:10 am on a Friday morning. She was to be coming home later that morning on the Hospice Program but did not make it. My sister and I decided that she should be at home surrounded by her three dogs and family. Also, to be around her own belongings and be comfortable.
