    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Had two surgeries to left breast. The 2nd one was required after finding out my cancer was "Triple Negative", they had to go in a clean the margins, since the cancer is aggressive.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Felt pretty good during chemo treatment (12/6), made sure to drink a lot of water during, even had half a turkey sandwich. Had to have pressure monitored 15/20 mins when second med was introduced. Finally calmed down and proceeded. Because of the steroids taken the day before, of & after, had pretty good energy level. Also took the Zolfran (anti-nausea) meds as directed for 3 days, must have helped, did not feel nausea at all. Just had some tingling sensations throughout my body, generated mostly to my head, very strange feeling, but not so painful. Got the Neulasta shot day after (12/7), took claritin right away (as directed by the nurse). I was generally pretty good until 12/11, got up from the couch & felt like my lower back was giving out..such a pain I can't explain it, couldn't stand, sit, lay down. I guess the extra strength tylenol wasn't helping. Luckily my hubby had Vicoden, had to take a few for the next 2 days and it helped. I called the cancer ctr and requested some pain killers, they really should have given that to me before going home...oh well now I have them on hand. Also had to take a lot of Senna pills for constipation, got that going around day 3. So be sure to drink a LOT of water, I did as soon as I got home for the next 4 days and still drinking as much as I can to flush the system, don't need the chemo meds hanging around in the body...besides the aches & pains I feel pretty positive, I pray the next round could be this good, but ya never know.. Just waiting for the hair loss, which will really upset me, but I'm going w/the flow already have wigs, hats on hand. Finally took a walk around my area 1/2 circle w/my doggie, felt good, but I'm not gonna push it. :)

    Hair loss (alopecia)

    Side Effects

After much deliberation, I went ahead and cut & cut & cut my hair....17 days after my 1st chemo treatment..it started to fall out slowly at 1st. But since my hair was a little longer than shoulder length, the long strands coming out (like 10 at a time) was nerve wrecking...I had this fear that it would start falling out in big clumps while I was out in public (esp when I was by myself). Also, when my hair would pull on a coat or scarf it really started to hurt my scalp. So I had hubby help me cut it a little at a time, I faced away from the mirror, every few inches I'd look. Then finally i told him give me the scissors, and started to chop it up to the scalp. Right now it looks like a military haircut.. My scalp is a little sensitive on the right front side, so I'm assuming it all may fall out soon. I thought this type of cut would make it easier to go bald then having long strands of hair. Now I am very happy that I did it this way, I feel much more in power. I have 3 wigs, a halo wig (which I recommend) u can where it under any hat or scarf (I'm not a scarf person) with not too much maintenance. Or sometimes I just walk around with a little hat...

    External radiation

    Radiation

Tomorrow 5/7/13 it's back to radiation treatment, after the surgery. Not sure if they will be added more areas/sessions since I 1st started & had to stop after 12..1st week back to radiation done. Not bad, but I am much sorer because of the surgery, but I'm dealing with it. Onc now says I'm at Stage 2, I'd really like to stop it here...They are not sure if I need chemo again after the radiation, not even sure how the last sessions of my radiation will go..

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Back to chemo again (4 rounds) of Adriamycin "Red Devil". I did not receive this drug the 1st time I had chemo last year from Dec to Feb 2013. This was a different experience then last time. Only took about 1 hr, with all the prep work, (as opposed to 3hrs w/other meds). 1st time using a port. No problem w/the port..Got my Neulast shot yesterday, feeling a little sore, so I am staying on top of it w/vicioden. They also did not give me steroid meds this time (day before of & after). I pray this does the trick...

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

I am a very happy camper...My last Pet Scan in 12/13 was good/clean. And my recent blood work looks good. Spoke with my Oncologist we are going to leave the Port in until my next blood work is back (will do in 3 mons). He will decide if I need to do another scan at that time. Praying this beast is done and outta my body for good...Staying positive & strong really does help...
