    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I had my surgery , dbl mast, in Houston at md Anderson cancer center. Stayed for only 2 days. Everything went well. I was given plenty of meds for pain....didn't really use much. At first I felt tightness from expanders. I went back to get more fluid every 2 weeks or so. My doctors always gave me the choice to put more in or not. My drains were very manageable. The hospital gave me gloves to empty drains and to avoid infections. I recorded how much fluid everyday. I took showers instead of baths to avoid infection, used antibiotic soap. I was given a band from hospital to hang drains, but I used this only when I showered. I wd use safety pins and fastened them to my bra or the hospital bra at first. I did the exercises for my muscles on my arms and back etc. really helped.everything went well.

    Breast Reconstruction (Implant)

    Procedure or Surgery

My doctors had to cut a little more to bring the implants closer. I had developed what they call doggy ears at the ends of incisions, so that to cut a little more to make it look more rounded. So I had a little more pain and then I developed a mild allergic reaction to pain meds. So the pain was a little more than I had expected, but healing really nice and able to sleep better. The silicone implants do show ripples that you can see, but with clothes over them they look good.
