    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Tumor on kidney accidentally noticed during unrelated ultrasound. It was late stage I. Great thing I had mono, otherwise the ultrasound would never have been done.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

The first test I had (kidney angiogram) was tough emotionally. I felt sorry for the poor lab tech waiting for me to compose myself. It was a worse moment than anything that followed, mainly because it was the first moment it all became real. Surgery was scheduled in Toronto, so would have to travel 500 miles for surgery. Was all set to go when the SARS outbreak hit Toronto and all but essential surgery was shut down. About 4-6 weeks after originally planned, the operation went ahead. Radical nephrectomy of the left kidney down laproscopically. I was sitting in a pub with my brother having a beer three days later.
