    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Breast cancer is not ALWAYS a silent disease. I had pain that prompted me to seek medical attention after I found a lump. I am in healthcare and knew immediately from the technicians responses and affects during diagnostics. Mammogram, ultrasound and finally breast MRI, whew.

    Breast biopsy vacuum assisted

    Procedure or Surgery

I was instructed this was a "minor" procedure that could be performed in office with little discomfort. This procedure was performed with local lidocaine and was extremely painful. It was painful for several days to come.

    Minimal Recovery: Disagree
    Minimal Side Effects: Disagree

    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

My experience was waking to the worst pain of my life. It was a burning pain that required an extra overnight stay in the hospital due to inability to control pain. I love my breast surgeon April Maddux, of Brookwood hospital, Breast Care Center of Birmingham Alabama. She was my second opinion and one of my best decisions.

    Breast Implant Tissue Expanders

    Procedure or Surgery

Dr. Duquette of the Duquette Center at Brookwood Hospital, my second best decision. The expanders were placed at the same time of the mastectomy so I awoke with implants in place which helped my self image immediately. The expanders had to be filled with 100cc weekly until we reached the desired size but there was minimal discomfort with the fills which took place in dr. Duquette's office.
