Diagnosed
Oh No
My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer on the same day I received my own diagnosis. I was in disbelief about my own, as it seemed insignificant next to his.
Double Mastectomy
Procedure or Surgery
My surgeon was a cold woman. The fact that my husband wasn't able to provide the support he'd always given me (due to his own disease, procedures, bad news, etc.) was emotionally difficult. I felt compelled to keep a very stiff upper lip, while trying to help him as much as possible.
Chemotherapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
My first session was yesterday, but I'm hoping for minimal side effects. I changed oncologists last week, going to the doctor who had been so wonderful for my husband, and who understands the whole story. (My husband died two months after his diagnosis, so I am feeling very sad.) The first oncologist didn't seem very sympathetic, and couldn't explain my pathology reports to me in a way I could understand.
Physical therapy for range of motion after surgery
Other Care
This was the best thing I've done so far. I don't know why the surgical team didn't strongly urge me to do it. It was my own idea. I also joined a gym, and am part of a yoga class.
