    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Through 2 visits to my gynecologist I was becoming pretty sure his news wasn't going to be good but I'm a "glass half full" kind of gal. I still wasn't at all prepared -- nor did I have anyone with me for support, when the doctor finally dropped the bomb. I have no idea what he was saying, I just felt like I was being hustled along to do what he wanted. I remember sitting with someone who scheduled a radical hysterectomy; I don't remember driving home to an empty house.

    Problem with doctor

    Oh No

After telling the friend who'd accompanied me, and later telling me that "no further treatment would be needed," the doctor told me at 10 p.m. the night before I was to go home that the cancer had spread, it was now Stage 3 and he was sending me to on Oncologist for radiation, chemotherapy, additional surgery or all three. Again -- all alone. No one to even talk to or call.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. One of the nurses said, "You know all those papers you signed absolving us of anything in case something went wrong? Well all of it did."

    Minimal Recovery: Strongly Disagree
    Minimal Side Effects: Strongly Disagree

    External radiation

    Radiation

I was very lucky. For me, radiation treatment was pretty much a non-issue. My medical team was the best.

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

The port was very annoying because apparently I was too skinny to have enough skin to adequately cover it. Everything got stuck on it: purse straps, seat belts, bra straps ...

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Again I lucked out. My medical team made everything as easy as possible for me. The only horrifying, I'm-going-to-cry-forever side effect was losing my hair -- actually seeing it gather around the shower drain.

    No hair

    Oh No

I feel so guilty for making such a big deal out of losing all my hair but it really cut me off at the knees.

I had to talk with the Oncologist about what was coming next.

    Decision Point

Again, God sent me the very best. I knew, with no reservationa whatsoever, that I liked and could trust my Oncologist and his staff.
