Cancer has spread/Metastasized - Callejal

Oh No Associated with Skin Cancer - Melanoma. Posted on March 20, 2018 View this journey (1 Experience)

I get a skin check on a regular basis and nothing was found. Now I find out I have Melanoma, and it's spread to my lungs. The Dr thinks maybe something was removed at some point, and not sent for a biopsy.

Hi! I am so sorry! I also had melanoma that spread to my lungs. I did radiation, yervoy and opdivo. I am currently off of treatment now and just being scanned every three months. So far the scans have been clear. Have they talked about treatment options? Please feel free to ask any questions. Wishing you all the best. Sandi

I also had melanoma that spread to my lungs. I had an operation to remove my right middle lobe. Mel loves the lungs. Wishing you the best. Remember to get a second opinion from a Mel specialist

So very sorry to hear your news. If you are not seeing a melanoma specialist, you should consider doing it; at least for a second opinion. You also need to be tested to see if you are BRAF positive as that information will allow you to better understand treatment options. I was diagnosed 8 1/2 years ago with melanoma in my lungs and I have been on vemurafenib now for 8 years. Best of luck to you.

Thank you Sandi, Terri and Dick. Your comments are encouraging. I started Yervoy and Opdivo March 20th I had a really bad allergic reaction to one of the drugs. My Dr decided to stop the one of the drug I forgot which one. I had my second infusion 4/10 and so far so good. I did get tested for BRAF and I'm negative. :( I wish you all the best.

I am sorry you had that experience, Callejal. Don't be discouraged. I have failed therapies, most notably the TIL therapy which was a whole year at NIH. I am still here. There are other therapies. I am thankful for the new therapies. When I was dx there was little hope. Now there is.
