Experiences with Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy is removing, blocking, or adding hormones in order to fight cancer. Hormone therapy is a form of systemic therapy, but is most often used as an adjuvant therapy after cancer treatment. Hormone therapy is most commonly used to treat breast cancer and prostate cancer. Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) is a common medication used to treat breast cancer and is taken orally. Side effects for hormone therapy for breast cancer include hot flashes, nausea and vomiting, bone pain, vaginal spotting, increased fertility in your women, and irregular periods. Side effects for hormone therapy (androgen deprivation) for prostate cancer include reduced libido, impotence (ED), brittle bones, and hot flashes.

Hormone therapy is a treatment option suggested by doctors, however the decision is often left up to the patient. Even after reading about the side effects of the treatment, many WhatNexter’s want to hear about specific experiences. A lot ask, ‘Hormone therapy or chemotherapy?’. Once women are on Tamoxifen, they have second thoughts when experiencing side effects or lifestyle changes and wonder whether or not they should stay on it. Whatever questions you may have about beginning, undergoing, or ending hormone therapy treatment, WhatNext is a great place to ask them and to get answers by gaining firsthand insights.
