Experiences with Targeted therapy

Targeted therapy is a type of cancer therapy that is aimed right at changes in cells that cause cancer. There are many types of cancer targeted therapy, but all types change the way a cancer cell grows, divides, repairs itself, or works with other cells. Three types of targeted therapies are growth signal inhibitors, anti-angiogenesis agents, and apoptosis-inducing drugs. Targeted therapy proves to have different and less severe side effects than other treatments; it is also being used to treat more advanced cancers. Targeted therapy is given orally in the form of a pill for many different types of cancer. Common medications include trastuzumab (Herceptin) to treat breast cancer, sorafenib (Nexavar) to treat liver cancer and kidney cancer, and bevacizumab (Avastin) to treat non-small cell lung cancer.

Many WhatNexter’s have positive things to say about Herceptin when answering questions about HER2 mutation; many report that there are fewer side effects for this targeted therapy, and it lessens the pain of the cancer. Many other WhatNexter’s are afraid to try targeted therapies because they do not know a lot about them. Many patients have had success with targeted therapy. It is worth it to read firsthand insights and ask questions about this form of cancer treatment below.
