Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy) - MaggieB

Procedure or Surgery Associated with Colorectal (Colon) Cancer. Posted on April 17, 2012 View this journey (6 Experiences)

I had the cancer removed from my large colon and they were able to reattach my colon. They removed a cue ball size tumor from my liver at the same time. It is unknown at this time if they got it all but they are saying it looks good. I was stage IV at time of diagnosis. After the surgeon removed my staples (40) the incision opened up in areas so my recovery time has been much longer than anticipated. It is now April and I am still healing. I pack the open wound at least once daily. For a few weeks (while my surgeon was on vacation) I had a visiting nurse come by the house to check and repack the wound. It is easy enough to do by myself but was reassuring to have a professional keep an eye on it for signs of infection.
