Breast Reconstruction (Flap) - Milin

Procedure or Surgery Associated with Breast Cancer. Posted on August 13, 2019 View this journey (7 Experiences)

Here I'm again after the Reconstruction surgery, It was on May 15th. When your doctor tells you is going to be 8 weeks to recover, don't doubt, it is, if is not more!!!! My doctor A+, I did have a Flat Reconstruction Surgery, which means that they took tissue from my abdomen to put on my chest and form the new breast. The surgery took 12 hours, sadly I woke up with a migraine, that was because all the narcotics and the anesthesia, is what the Doctor told me, it was 4 miserable days. Well after the surgery I was in the ICU for 2 days where they check you every hour. After that to my room for 4 more days, the room should be at 80 degrees, ha!!!!, horrible hot because they check the blood fluid in your chest after connecting the arteries. And yes I had 4 drains, 2 abdomen and 2 on new breast. I said it takes 8 weeks to feel better is true, the abdomen wound is really big, mine reopened and I had to cure every day twice. But now after almost 3 months I'm feeling stronger and planning to go back to work in 3 weeks. Honestly, it hasn't been easy, is painful and takes a lot of your patience and having a lovely husband to take care of you. Good luck my friends!!!

Glad to hear that you're coming around. Recovery seems like it takes forever when it's happening, but after it's done it doesn't seem like it took that long.

You certainly have had a time of it. I am glad that you are feeling much better and healed enough to return to work. I hope you are pleased with the outcome. Having supportive family and friends is always a big plus. Take care.

Keep plugging forward like you are. It seems like everything we do throughout this journey takes longer to get started and takes longer to finish than what I thought it would. You will reach the finish line before you know it.

Recovery is longer as we age. You are a real trooper. I could never do what you've had done. Keep us posted on how you're progressing. Sounds like you are doing well, though.
