Swallowing problems - Nels1960

Side Effects Associated with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Oral Cavity and Oropharyngeal Cancer. Posted on July 8, 2018 View this journey (1 Experience)

It has been over 27 years since my surgery and treatments for cancer and I have been very lucky and have had no real problems until recently. My voice has never been really good since the surgery, they removed much of my neck, shoulder, tongue, and part of my jaw. This left me with a strange sounding voice but I was able to learn how to talk again even though my ride side is paralyzed from the surgery. However, recently I became ill and speaking became difficult and painful. After several months and treatment for infection, I have still not regained my voice. Is this a possible side effect from my radiation and cancer treatments?
