Experiences with Money

Considering the costs that come with having cancer can make you feel powerless and discouraged. Fortunately, there are an innumerable amount of financial resources if you are willing to seek them. WhatNexter’s suggest, never give up and do not be afraid to ask for help. There are national and local service organizations that can offer assistance with treatment related transportation, meals and food costs, lodging, basic living costs, childcare, and medication and treatment financial assistance. Another way to deal with money issues is to set up a case with a hospital social worker for help and advice, or to set up a fundraising or donation website for your loved one with cancer.

A lot of WhatNexter’s have asked “Any ideas on how to raise money?”, “How can the American Cancer Society help me financially?”, “How do I get family to understand the costs of cancer?”, and other general questions about financial aspects of having cancer. One of the most helpful resources to use is the American Cancer Society; they will work as a middle man to find the help you need. Most importantly, be open-minded and confident enough to ask for the help you need. People want to accommodate you in any way they can. One of the regrets that cancer patients have after going through their cancer treatment is that they did not use the resources that were available to them. For more ideas on reaching out for help, read what questions and experiences other WhatNexter’s have shared below.
