Swelling (edema) - peachpoppy

Side Effects Associated with Invasive (Infiltrating) Ductal Carcinoma . Posted on December 4, 2013 View this journey (31 Experiences)

Almost 2 weeks post chemo and the swelling in my arms and legs (and a little in my face) is getting really bad. Doctor prescribed Lasix for 3 days, but I'm not seeing much improvement.

The good news is that my energy is creeping back up and, to a lesser degree, my fingernail pain and neuropathy are improving.

I experienced swelling from Folfox chemotherapy for a six month treatment of colon cancer even after the treatment was over. I tried to really watch my sodium intake. I noticed it was worse if I did not prop my feet up and also if I did not do exercising. It's probably a fine balance between water intake and output. Ironically, they say drinking bottled water (w/out sodium) helps reduce water retention, but I know somebody with renal failure who has to watch water intake.

I'm on my second week of the water pill and FINALLY feeling a little better. They are going to monitor my potassium on Monday (7 days out on this second round of water pills) then see if i need to continue or not.

Enjoying being able to walk up stairs again!
