Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy) - Schtroumpfette

Procedure or Surgery Associated with Adenocarcinoma, Colorectal Cancer. Posted on November 12, 2013 View this journey (12 Experiences)

On October 28th I had my rectal tumor removed and a resection of my colon and rectum done. Much more of my colon was ruined by radiation than expected so my surgeon had to take more than anticipated and was unable to make a small colon J-pouch, which would have been incredibly helpful after my takedown next year.
I also had a total hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy as the tumor was connected to an ovary and was pushing against and tilting my uterus.
This has been a tough recovery. Really tough.
It's been two weeks and I am still constantly in pain. The narcotics take the edge off the pain but do not get rid of it even for a moment.
I'm wearing a hormone patch, but the hot flashes and emotional instability are still definitely problems.
I know things will get better, and that I will be feeling better within a few more weeks, but this has been a terribly hard and pain filled few weeks.

I am so sorry for your pain. Before my initial surgery to remove my tumor, the pain was horrible and as you described, pain medication didn't touch it. I would play music. I would sing hymns. I would take HOT baths ( which you probably can't do yet). Singing praise & worship songs helped the most for me, though. I pray you have relief soon.

You are such a strong and brave woman. Some people run from their health problems and you faced yours with grace and strength. I hope everything is going well for you now and that you've made a complete recovery. God Bless :)
