Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy) - Sharonk

Procedure or Surgery Associated with Colorectal (Colon) Cancer. Posted on September 28, 2015 View this journey (6 Experiences)

Emergency surgery within hours of diagnosis (CAT scan in ER) went fine, but post-op team didn't monitor respiration. My RN daughter gets them to respond.
Went into respiratory arrest--then severe reaction to drug they gave. They tried to fix that with an injection of Benadryl, which put me back into arrest. My daughter is screaming at them to get them on track. Finally came out of it, luckily. They commented they only monitor heart post-op and "this happens a lot".

Holy Cow!! Sure glad your daughter was there and took charge. Thank God you're ok. Hope nothing like this happens again. I would use a different hospital next time. I know you didn't have any choice as this was an emergency. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery.
