Side Effects Associated with Pancreatic Cancer. Posted on October 9, 2011 View this journey (6 Experiences)

I definitely have side effects from my chemo drug that are distressing, but the issues aren't there every day, and I'm happy to deal with those, because the drug is literally keeping me alive. What is more of a problem for me is the effects of the surgery, which is called the Whipple procedure, common for patients with pancreatic cancer. During the procedure they remove half of your pancreas, all of your duodenum, your gall bladder, some of your small intestine and more. My gastrointestinal system does seem to work differently now. As the doctor explained to me after the surgery, I now had "new plumbing". I liked the old plumbing so much better, except for that darn cancer.
