I had noticed at some point some "pulling" type of pains in my right lower quadrant abdominal area (like where your appendix is). I didn't think much of it, because they mainly occurred if I got up from a seated position, and were really "no big deal." As they started to occur more frequently (e.g. when turning over in bed, getting in/out of car, etc), and I was due for a regular GYN appointment anyway, I went to see my GYN. I am a physician assistant and my GYN had known me for many years, so he didn't blow off my concerns. He offered to do an ultrasound, and it didn't show much, but it recommended doing a CT scan. So we did that. It showed multiple unusual findings, all vague, but concerning for possible colon cancer on the right. I then had a colonoscopy, but it was completely normal. The only thing left to do was go inside and look. We expected to find an ovarian cyst, since I'd had them before, including one that had ruptured. I almost canceled the surgery, thinking I was making a big deal about nothing, but you know, it was already booked, and I figured what the XXX, just let him look, if it's a cyst he can remove it. So I went ahead and on a Wednesday afternoon at 1 PM I was wheeled into the OR (operating room).
