Radiation and chemotherapy together - Uranus

Radiation Associated with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Anal Cancer. Posted on May 25, 2014 View this journey (5 Experiences)

3 days after I completed treatment I went into the hospital for radiation enteritis and a UTI. I was there for 5 days. During this time I also had pus coming from the skin radiated. The skin did heal in about a week. I still have digestion problems but they are not expected to be permenant.

Except I don't understand any difference between eating an apple or eating apple sauce except that you don't need to chew.

I'm very happy for you that there is no permanent scarring and that a full recovery is expected.

Geekling, the difference is the fiber. When you have radiation enteritis the digestive system cannot handle any fiber for awhile. I'm just now able to tolerate small amounts of salad and fresh fruit.

OK. Understood. Except the same fiber is in applesauce as is in the apple. It is just "pre chewed". That is the part I don't understand.

Glad you are beginning to recover. ;-)

Maybe it being "per chewed" is less work for the digestive system and that's why it's allowed. Not sure but makes sense :).

LOL, you need a high speed blender.

Nobody chews their food any more. No time. Most folks just bolt everything down which leaves a lot of work for your insides that your teeth ought to do.
