Hi everyone. I just learned after my mastectomy that I will be doing radiation soon. The doctor wants to wait a week or so, so that my incision is completely healed. They want to do 30 treatments, everyday Monday thru Friday for 6 weeks to make sure they get all the bad cells that might be still lingering.. it sounds so extreme, but it’s what I have to do. I have reached out to a couple of breast cancer organizations for help with my co-pays and traveling expenses and no one has called me or wrote me back. I am beginning to think they are not all they say they are when it comes to helping people.

    Hi, What Next family.
It’s been 10 days since my MRM (Modified Radical Mastectomy)
The surgery went well and I’m now home recuperating. The surgeon says they got it all but are still waiting on the pathology report. The pain has subsided a lot,but mentally I’m having a difficult time dealing with everything. I try not to show it because I don’t want pity. I wake up each morning and I pray and I cry. I am so blessed and grateful that I made it through, It’s just that things are so overwhelming. I’m sure things will get better but I just want to be honest about my feelings. I didn’t have the option of getting reconstruction at the time of surgery, but I can get it later on once I’m healed. I know there are people out here having a more difficult time than myself, and I try to remember that. I pray for all of us and hope that one day they find a cure for this devastating disease. In a few weeks I start chemo again, and hopefully by the end of summer, I will be cancer free.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You are allowed to have as much self-pity as you need. I became very withdrawn after my double mastectomy. It lasted about 3 weeks. I don't remember just what snapped me out of it. It might have been when I started chemo. I was determined to get rid of any lingering cancer cells. I will continue to remember you in my prayers. Give yourself time. Take care.

Thank you so much. I feel as if it would be different if it were a double mastectomy. Because having only 1 breast is so hard. I feel very self conscious when going out because my incision is still pretty sore. I try to stuff the one side of my bra if I just have to go out just so my clothes will fit right, but some times I just try and cover up best I can with a shawl or something.
