Becky- We had very good luck with Scandi shakes. You can get them through your oncology office or order them online. If you contact the company they will send you a sample box that has like 20 shake packets in it to try. They were originally made for kids who needed to gain weight so they are high calorie, high nutrition, and they taste way better than Ensure or Boost. You can modify the shake by blending it with fruit, yogurt, etc, to add nutrition.
Before my hubby did radiation, his tumor was blocking his esophagus 95%. I made him the following 3 times a day plus whatever solid food he could stand: Scandi shake made with whole milk (600 cal), add 1/2 cup whole milk yogurt (150 cal), add 1/2 cup fresh fruit (50 cal)= 800 cal. with high protein and high vitamin C. We sometimes varied it with chocolate or strawberry. I also would blend up spinach or kale and make green shakes (plus the shake mix and yogurt above). Tasted pretty good and lots of iron and B vitamins.
Ask your oncology office for a dietician consult. They should be able to set you up with shakes and recipes to meet his specific needs.
