I went to Boston yesterday for a 6 month follow up. The Endo found a new mass in my neck that was not there in January. He has ordered a PET scan and lab work. I HAD been told this variant is much more aggressive. But, WOW...

I have complete trust in my surgeon (Dr. Lin). He has been on vacation recently. I have an appointment with him on Sept. 8, at 1:45pm. Dr. Barbisino has been great. He will be speaking to Dr. Lin upon his return.
I think I just need a listening ear right now.

I understand, and am so glad that you have found doctors that you are pleased with and have faith in. I wish you luck for your visit with your surgeon. They are so experienced at MGH, I know you will get the best treatment. Do let us know what the surgeon says, and I am sure it will get well taken care of. Be in touch if you have questions that we can answer. Just remember, as Reagan said: "Never say "I have cancer." Say "There is a cancer and it will be got rid of!"

I go to Boston tomorrow to see my surgeon. I have so many new questions. I have complete trust that he knows "What's Next".

I know June is "National Survivors Month". I have just lost the third friend or family member to cancer since December. I'm not sure how many more funerals I am able to attend. We have spent time together talking on the phone, supporting each other. We have driven each other to treatments. We have laughed and cried together. And now, I have to go to one more funeral. This is so hard.

It has been one year since my thyroid surgery. I do feel the best I have felt since that day. I just had a check up with me Endo Doctor. The labs show I still need a little tweeking on my Levothyroxine. My Thyroglobulin is the lowest it has ever been. Not at zero, yet, but low. I am so glad to get this past year behind me. Stay positive, ask questions, and settle for nothing less than the best care possible.

Good news! My thyroxine level keeps getting upped too. Hope you continue on the upward progress.

Thank you Greg. It is amazing how waiting for lab work and Doctor visits give us such anxiety. This can be the happiest day of news or the saddest day. I look forward and dread it more than anything these days.

It has been a while since I have updated my journey. It has been just over 3 weeks since the doctor gave me 200mci's of radiation. The week before my treatment, we found a new spot in my left lung. This tall-cell cancer is fast moving. I was expected to get 100mci's, but the doctor doubled the dose as to help shrink what we already have.
The side effects were expected. Headaches for the first few days. I had some mouth blisters. Then came the nose bleeds, and tenderness in my sinuses. Still very tired. I'm putting in a 40 hour week at work. After all I still need the insurance. Sometimes I think my brain doesn't know what I need to do next.
I still keep my head up and push forward. I keep a smile on my face. But it will be one year since my journey began in October. I find it hard to believe.

One week of the low iodine diet is behind me. Can I hear a (whoot whoot). I had a very busy work week and slept most of the day on Sunday. My husband has been doing the grilling all weekend. We cooked extra for lunches at work. Four more days of work, then out for at least two weeks. RAI on the 22nd.

Whoot Whoot!! Glad you're doing good. There is a question on the questions page someone posted today wanting to know what a low iodine diet was and what foods to avoid, maybe you could answer. Thanks!

Hi once again. There is something I need to share. On my birthday, this past Sunday, I had an event I did not share. I wanted to keep it to myself and family. But I find it important to share as part of this journey.
My Mom lost her battle with Alzheimers. She was the one person that knew how to fight. She gave all five of her children the knowledge of how to stand up to hospital CEO's, Doctors, Insurance companies, or anyone that would get in the way of a healthy recovery.
So Mom, May you rest in peace. I know you have a very special place in heaven. We will be at your side on Friday with Dad beside us. We will comfort him and say our final good bye's.

Happy late birthday, and so sorry for the loss of your Mom. It's a tough one, I've been there before. Hope you find comfort soon, it does eventually get easier, although I still think about mom and dad everyday, they are happy thoughts.
