I am new to all of this stuff. I understand the medical terminology, but I am still confused. I think I ought to feel more upset about this diagnosis than I have been. I have stage 4 breast cancer and right now I dont really feel much in the way of emotion. My main concern is for my daughter who has started college in the last year, lost both of her grandparents and several family members and friends and now she has to deal with my illness. I dont know how to help her through this. If anyone can tell me where to start or what direction I can go in, please do so.

I would do a masectomy double even with taken your lymph nodes, then have aggressive chemo an radiatin. I was stage two and it worked for me.That is my opinion. I wish you the best of luck. Let me know what you decide, I'm concerned.

I am SO sorry to read Stage 4 cancer and I DO understand your main concern is for your daughter. To address some of the other things you specifically mention.....

you think you should be more upset-You are probably still in a bit of shock and speaking for myself.... when I have to jump into "action mode" on something serious, I'm generally NOT upset..... I get everything organized and then, once everything is in place, I fall right to pieces. It's moving on adrenalin. Everyone's emotions are different and we all deal with things differently. I think as long as you are honest with yourself about your feelings, you will be okay.

Treatment? Everyone's cancer is different and there is no "one size fits all' for a course of action. Understand your diagnosis FULLY. Are you confident in your doctors? Do they answer your questions? Do you want to speak to a patient who is in a similar situation? I would suggest you might want to reach out to the social worker at the hospital where you are being treated. They might be a good source of guidance....

And keep coming here.... lots of great support.....

      All the best to you....
