Hi everyone: Just as an update, the PET scan showed that there was some spread to the paraaortic lymph node(s), but the radiologist said that this is not surprising with the size of the tumor and its location. He still thinks we've caught it in time for treatment to be effective. Has anyone else had this paraortic lymph node spread? It sounded kind of scary. Tomorrow she has the 3rd biopsy, this time under anesthesia, so we can finally confirm the type and stage of the cancer. And to top it all off, I notice that my job wasn't on the company's newest org chart. So I don't know if I'm going to have work soon. I'm a long term temp, so it's like being on a tightrope. When it rains, it pours. Guess I'm learning the "take it one day at a time" lesson from all this. Hope everyone is doing well and having a good week so far.

Hi there.....many of the women from our group have been diagnosed with the paraortic lymphnodes as well. That seems to be where (small cell/large cell at least) go. I had a possible spread to the node in my groin at diagnosis, but since we knew it was small cell we knew time was of the essence and we did not wait to have surgery, we went right into treatment. We were not able to confirm the spread to the node. Confirming if it is your garden variety Cervical or one of the rare and aggresive Cervicals is key. I hope all goes well for your mom and you as well. Looking forward to your posts.

BTW, I'm still trying to learn my way around this site, so forgive me if I don't quite understand how to reply or post properly. I'll try to sit down with it this weekend and get my sea legs. :)

      Hey Zippmaus,

KarenG_WN (our community manager) recently posted an overview of how/where to post. Thought this might help:

      Tip of the Week!
There are three places on WhatNext where you can post. Here's a quick overview of each:

      1) EXPERIENCES - What you include here paints a picture of your journey - treatment, surgery, celebrations (birthdays, finished treatment, remission!), loss (your hair, your mind, someone you love, etc.), decisions you have made or need to make and more. This can be an informative timeline for you to record your progress. Also, the more information you share, the more it could help others seeking perspective. You can access this from your home page underneath your picture.

      2) STATUS UPDATE - Much like a Facebook wall, this is where you can share what's going on. This is only seen by people who "follow" you or go to your wall. You might post about your weekend plans, something weighing on your mind, a funny joke you heard, etc. You can post an update by going to your home page and typing in the box (click on update).

      3) QUESTIONS - If you need anything (e.g., emotional support, help finding support/care resources, insights,) you can post in our Questions section. You can do this by clicking on the "Ask Network" link on your logged in home page or the "Questions" link at the top of this page. When you post needs/questions using our question feature, we route your question to everyone in the network who might be able to help.

Thank you everyone for your helpful input. Today I spoke with my mother's doctor who said her biopsies (the first ones) came back normal. He needs to do another, deeper one, to confirm whether the growth is not cancerous or whether it's small cell carcinoma (which terrifies me because I read online that the outlook isn't good with that). Mom had her PET scan today and we're hopeful for good news on Monday. She'll have the next and final biopsy early next week. I'll keep you all posted. We met a lovely woman in treatment today while at the imaging center. I'm so amazed at the support here and the amazing people and organization that puts it all together. Thank you all and you are all my heroes and in my prayers. :)
