Our campsite set up for Relay For Life Friday night. After working from 8 AM we are set up and ready for Relayers to stop by for their supper. We sold a whole bunch of BBQ, ribs, fried Oreos, bologna, chicken, and fried BBQ Pies. We also won best overall food award. I think we have won that 5 times since we started doing this. It's a lot of work but it's fun too.

Our Relay Team of family and friends that helped us set up our campsite and work the night serving BBQ, drinks, and all the rest. We started setting up at 9 AM and Donna and I got home at 1 AM. I am so sore I don't think I will move off of the couch much today! It's a lot of work and we always say we will have to talk about doing it again next year, but we soon start planning the next year.

AFter three-times with cancer, I learned you never really triumph ujntil you realize your suffering can lead you to relieve the suffering of others, and so, after having cancer the third time, unable to get a job in my field of radio or journalism because o0f my age and health, I decided to downsize the world and outsource myself and draw on the talents I created and returned to the stage to do comedy and speak to cancer groups about life. And it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

I'm a three-time cancer survivor. When I was given an all-clear alarm and came out of the chemo bomb shelter--well,actually, during and after chemo, I vowed to dedicate myself to performing the best stand-up comedy every day. So I subscribed to the New York Times, THE NEW Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, as well as get to unread books on the shelf: Mark Twain's posthumous three-volume biography. And spent five hours a day writing and reading. And you know what? even though I was bald and weak, and sometimes on the stage carrying my chemo, and then getting stronger, and hair coming back--well, it got me on a billboard in Times Square and my battle was profiled in the movie, “This is Living with Cancer,” to see the film and profile visit http://www.fredforyourhead.com and go to the Wow page

So keep living during cancer! You never know where it will take you. But fortunately--and ideally--it takes you into the arms of others and extending your arm to help others.

Live by example!

I've had cancer three-times. You can't let cancer define you--it's something you went through/ Yu've been altered, sure, but I found I only think about tests or exams only when I'm there! Not there--full on life without a thought to it, surfing, reading, getting rid of clutter around the house, streamlining myself for greater enjoyment! Oh. I left out surfing!

Okay, we'll always have that house-arrest bracelet of cancer follow-up ahead, but that doesn't mean we're prisoners--we're escape artists enjoying a higher grade of freedom. For me, meant going to Australia and seeing those salties--salt water crocks in Kakadu

It was also a day to celebrate the human/animal bond and the comfort our pets can give us when the going gets "ruff". They give us so much love!
