    Additional Radiation

My radiologist said he was going to give me 33 treatments, with the last 3 being a higher dose which he says is showing better success. Anyone ever heard of this?

They are called booster treatments and can be anywhere from 1 to about 5 treatments immediately after the regular course of treatments. It is pretty much standard practice for certain cancers, particularly those with well defined tumors.

Yep, I had the same thing but I had 5 treatments.

I had four boosters. It's usually at the incision site because that's where cancers sometimes come back.

Yes. The three extra are called a boost. They are concentrated to a specific area. Good luck with everything. Radiation wasn't bad at all. Just got tired around the third week. Blessings to you!

I had this as well as someone else having radiation at the same time. For me it was 3 extra larger doses and more focused on the site, not hitting as wide of an area.

It is a common practice. Nothing to worry about.

My original radioligist perscribed 28 treatments, then turned me over to his younger partner who added 5 more some at higher doses.

The way my Radiologist explained it to me is that the 28 doses are to a general area around where the cancer was. Then the boosts are concentrated directly to where the cancer was.

Yes Booster Rounds! I had them too. I got a bit of a burn towards the end, but Aloe Vera compresses really felt soothing. And we do heal! Good luck to you.

I had 33 rad treatments...the last 8 were "scar boost" treatments. They just got a lot closer with the machine and zapped a smaller area. Pretty standard I think.
