I had a nipple reconstruction that failed, so I know about necrosis for sure! Not pleasant! Have you tried any essential oils like lavender to calm, soothe the area? Be sure to use a therapeutic grade A oil (not like what we find in the health food store)! Also - how long after your surgery has this happened? You might have a staph infection picked up from the hospital (just possible...)

I also had the breast expander and had death of the skin at and around the incision. The surgeon told me that it sometimes happens to smokers are if you are around second hand smoke. I had another surgery that removed the dead skin and I am now healing just fine.

I am not a smoker but suffer with systemic lupus which has started acting up due to the cancer. I did actually have a skin graft that corrected the issue and now it's healed nicely. Thanks for all the responses.
