I often find that if I know I will need to leave the house, or walk somewhere-- I will take an oxycodone about 30 minutes prior, often earlier to help with pain from getting dressed.

Pain meds are very hard to dose and time-- I'd suggest making a pain log of sorts to find when breakthrough pain happens, and tailoring your dosage to combat that. Best wishes :)

My wife uses a Fentanyl patch for arthrityc pain which is otherwise constant for her. One thing to consider is that the patch is hard to give up once you are on it for a while as it is constant stream of drug. You have to change it on time or pain will come in quickly. I would try the pills first as you can vary the dosage and use it only when you need it. Good Luck
