Any information about side effects etc of cisplatin?

My Platelets are still in the dumps - 97 this morning, up from a low 23 two weeks ago. My doctor is switching me from Carboplatin to cisplatin, as it is less toxic to my bone marrow. I am looking for information on side effects, etc. All I know at this point is that I will be at the center all day. 3 hours of hydration before and after treatment.

I have had cisplatin; however, it was given with other drugs so it is impossible to determine if the side effects are from the cisplatin or from the other drugs. It is also worth noting that each person reacts differently to each drug thus just because someone had a set of side effects dose not mean you will have the same ones. Listing io side efects can be scary but it gives you some idea of what to be prepared for. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I had cisplatin, also in conjuction with other drugs so I'm not entirely sure which was which. However, the onc did say that the ringing in my ears was due to cisplatin. We were able to control any nausea with meds but I did experience fatique, swelling in the feet, and dry flaky skin on my hands. Again, not sure which drug was the culprit. My last treatment was in October 2012 and all these are gone now. I have had some tingling in my feet and hands which I am still expereincing. I agree with Peroll that everybody is different but I hope this helps somewhat in knowing what to expect. Good luck!

I was given cisplatin with etoposide so I'm sot sure what all the side effects were other than the standard, nausea, hairloss etc. My oncologist did tell me that the cisplatin is what caused my neuropathy.

I almost forgot, I had hair loss as well. Guess I've gotten used to my bald head! Lol! Actually, it's growing back now, about 1/2 an inch long. Still wearing hats and wigs.
