Any of you ladies out there who are immunocompromised constantly battling vaginal yeast infections & what do you do?

I'm a BC patient, but I'm not immunocompromised from that, I am from Lupus (it's really no different than being so from chemo-the results are the same {I'm fortunate in that I don't need chemotherapy {unfortunate in that I have Lupus instead for 20 years]). My white count is low. I'm watching my diet, trying to avoid sugars and baked goods, eating yogurt and taking probiotics. I've switched to a new Ob/gGyn who's supposedly more experienced and expert at dealing with people with these issues and she has me using boric acid suppositories vaginally (rather than the usual terconazole or miconazole-which no longer work well for me). Does anyone have any other good ideas (except, please do not include the holistic idea of inserting yogurt vaginally-that's just too out there for me!...;))

I have not dealt with vaginal yeast infections but I have gotten thrush a few times. I use diflucan. From what I understand you can be on a low dose of diflucan all the time and it will prevent yeast infections.

Before my youngest DD was born (she will be 15 in one week), I had recurrent yeast infections.....like monthly....never found a reason, but eventually they stopped and to be honest, I don't remember why or when!!!! I was always on meds for the infections....unfortunately, my memory isn't what it used to be...and its 7 years since Dx...good luck and hope the infections clear up for good!!!

I know this will sound really strange but i have read about using natural cocnut oil -with great success- for issues related to YI and similar menopause issues. Since taking Chemo it has thrown me into full menopause with all the symptoms. Google it and see if its something for you.

AlizaMLS - don't have that issue. I wish I could give you some new advice. Sending you hugs and healing vibes and lots of luck in finding a solution to this.

You might want to try some homeopathic treatments. I have had success with them when treating chest congestion and allergies. These oral compounds - liquid or little pellets.

Hi all, so far no luck, I'm one of the unlucky few who has an allergy for Diflucan and I'm allergic to tree nuts so anything containing coconut is a no go!

You're probably getting vaginal infections from the steroid component to chemo. I get the itchy anus instead, after too much beer over a week's time (2/night is too much for me), too much sugary stuff, or too much fruit. Up your probiotics, maybe take the emergency one, and eat yogurt. It's a gut problem and chemo upsets the lining of the gut, stomach, throat.
