Any one with a Gist Tumor Diagnosis? Did you take Gleevec?

The tumor is removed, no other signs, but the oncologist recommends the pill?

I also have Gist and have been on Gleevec since August of this year. I am 62 and I had to have the duodenum and my gall bladder removered as a result of this tumor. The Gleevec I am still trying to adjust to . Its not as bad as the iv form of chemo and it doesn't have to many side effects. ... at least so far.

I had stomach cancer and a tumor, but not sure if it was GIST. I was on EOX. :) I feel so dumb, because I don’t know much about my own cancer diagnosis. I was kind of in a fog.

Jacky21, I'm newly diagnosed, had surgery to remove the GIST two months ago, and have just ordered the Gleevec to take. Did you start taking it and tolerate the side effects? I have searched the survival rate of GIST patients, and its based on many things specific to your own tumor and pathology report. You probably have discussed this with your doctor by now, and I hope he told you about the recurrence rate and how important the Gleevec is. I hope you are still reading.

Jacky21, please update us re your GIST and if you took Gleevec. I procrastinated and didn't start on the Gleevec before my post-surgery 3-month CT scan and doctor visit, and that was a big mistake. I had a new tumor in my stomach and my pancreatic lymph nodes were swelled! My doctor told me to start the Gleevec and it would take care of it. (The reason I procrastinated was I wanted to wait till I felt better to start it, but they said the reason I didn't feel good was probably the new tumor, and I would actually feel better taking the Gleevec.)

First question: Does anyone know if Gleevec will take care of GIST when it's in the lymph nodes? I've been taking it a week now.

Second question: According to CVS's information, Gleevec works by reducing the seratonin in your body. I take Zoloft, which is seratonin, for fibromyalgia symptoms. Has anyone else noticed a connection between GIST and taking an antidepressant/seratonin?

      Thank you!
