Anyone experienced side effects with ketoconazole, I mean nausea and vomiting ????n

My father is taking ketoconazole for three months now, and this med seems to be effective for him, but from one week to now he is experiencing some nausea and vomiting (We know this is a possible side effect of this med. Whne i say vomiting it is like a gastric liquid produced by the stomach, no more than this).

Last thursday I went with him to the hospital for some exams and all of them had very good and normal results (liver, kidneys, lungs, stomach, intestines, etc...).

Since last night he decided for himself to stop ketoconazole immediately.

Next week he is going to his urologist in order to talk about this.

What are the possible paths the doctor will take:

    - Remove ketoconazole ?
    - Substitute it for another medicine ?
    - Adjust the dosage ?
    - Others ????

What are your experiences with this ????

Poliana, I haven't had that drug but have had my share of nausea and vomiting from my chemo. There are a number of antinausea meds available to help. My oncologist prescribes at least three different ones every time I have chemo as some seem to work better than others for different people and chemo drugs. Starting antinausea meds at the first sign of nausea or even as he takes the meds that make him nausous will keep him aheadof the nausea.

Also with nausea you and your father need to watch for signs of dehydration as it is easy to get dehydrated quickly when nothing stays down and the nausea and dehydratuion can make each other worse resultingin a downward spiral that will land him in the hospital getting rehydrated. Good luck
