anyway to improve liver? Had to stop my chemo therapy :-(

My 3rd round chemo was postponed due to my failing liver - two liver enzymes are abnormally high - prevent me from getting taxotere\carbo combo. This is UNLIKELY from these chemo, as it does not sync with the timing of chemo dose. Also Doc eliminated possibilities of any common liver infections, i.e., HepB, C etc. I had a cold, so it may be it. Does anyone know any good diet or supplement to improve liver's overall health?

No matter what you decide to do, make sure you talk to your docs about whatever herbs / supplements you are taking.

The only things I know for sure is that when your liver is struggling, stay away from high fat foods and animal products (dairy, fried stuff, etc....) and to up your cruciferous plant foods (e.g., broccoli, cabbage, kale, and stuff like that). Brussel sprouts are included in this category, but I find those things utterly repulsive..... Ha ha... I love the others in this food category, though.

I've heard that cinnamon is good for the liver... I've never heard of any kind of interactions between eating cinnamon rich delicious-ness (I like oatmeal with apples and cinnamon and a touch of maple syrup) and problems with chemo... but checking with your doc is a good idea. I've also heard that tumeric is good for the liver, but I've also seen some research that says that loads of tumeric not only protects your healthy tissue from chemo but also protects the cancer from the chemo. So, beyond eating an occasional curry, I'd say steer away from adding tumeric in large amounts. But, that kind of thinking is what's needed in order to make good decisions about what to eat and not eat. You want to choose things that will help your healthy bits without also protecting the cancer from the chemo. Your oncs should be able to help you weed through supplements etc... so that you can make smart decisions about what to add and what to avoid.

I'm so sorry that your liver is struggling!!!! It's so frustrating to miss a cycle. I hope that this problem clears up soon!
