assistance with medical equipment at home

Hello! I am a caregiver at home for a loved one with stage IV pancreatic cancer, who is experiencing among other things a great deal of weakness, and tires quickly due to this cancer plus a previous lung cancer and COPD. Looking forward, I would like to care for him at home for as long as possible, and is within my capabilities. Expenses have been overwhelming as I don't have much to start with. Does anyone with experience in caregiving or cancer know what resources are available for assistance with acquiring a portable wheelchair, shower bench, and other equipment that would be helpful for home care, mobility and transportation?

Is he covered by any health insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, etc.)? Most will cover home heath care including durable medical equipment that is needed for home care including mobility equipment, oxygen supplementation, etc. In most cases the equipment/supplies will need to be prescribed by a physician for insurance to cover it.

If your loved one doesn't have insurance, I am wondering if you could find used medical equipment at a second-hand store in your area. Perhaps a call to a hospital social worker could offer some
solutions to finding what you need.
