yeah - post treatment funk is hard, isn't it? i found some sanity in riding my bike a ton... and setting a few medium term goals at work... somehow productivity and exercise helped me push through that funk.

another thing i immediately wonder about - how are your hormones? are you in chemo-pause, or did you get your cycle back? i am in chemo-pause... and since i was triple negative, they considered hormone replacement therapy a viable option for me. i felt sooooo much better after a while on that!

sorry you're feeling funky, but i sure can relate!!!! i hope you have a peaceful weekend! and i hope that you can find a spot of joy on your birthday...

Happy Birthday! There is nothing wrong with feeling low-key about your day. Your funk will clear! Have a great birthday - I hope that no matter how you celebrate it, it is exactly what you need.

Rejoice in your birthday (same day as mine, tho I'm a bit older ;-) ). last year, I was thrilled to celebrate my 60th birthday, after having been assured by one of the oncs I consulted with originally that I absolutely wouldn't be here. (He "gave me" 5 years. I chose a different oncologist!)

I'll be thinking of you when we raise a glass in celebration of our shared birthday on Monday!

Go do something silly, irresponsible and thrilling. Do one of those things you tell yourself you would never do, but secretly want to. Skydiving? Trapeze? Foreign Film? (like acting in it, even if you don't know the language).

Hi Mel!! Happy Birthday!! I can tell you that I am a 2x survivor and for my first birthday after cancer I didn't want anything to do with my birthday. This past birthday after my second round I wanted a bigger party and to celebrate. Anyone who follows me will know I can have troubling emotional issues. I have more times of feeling better than I used to and I can relate to the funk you're in. As others have told me, your feelings are totally normal!! Acknowledge your birthday however it suits you and don't feel you have to do what others are expecting. However if you are finding yourself in that funk more often then you'd like - then that's another story. Hang in there. It's a roller coaster ride. The people on this sight are wonderful. Take care.

Cancer is really sneaky, there is an after effect that can take place after you are done with treatment and "cured" - you are suddenly thinking you are supposed to be normal but you have been through a life-changing event. Depression, Anxiety and Guilt become a big problem for many of us. I fought this for many years before I was diagnosed with a form of PTSD. I now celebrate my birthday for a week, it is not so much my birthday but a celebration of my life. I hope I can help you get to this, its is hard but I do understand. Tracy

Even though I am thrilled to be having birthdays (cuz that means I'm still living), I don't get excited about them as I did before BC....it might be because I was Dx 3 months before turning 50 and was really looking forward to the big 50....and I celebrated recovering from chemo #3.....
I just don't want to be disappointed....so my birthdays are much more quiet....but the first one or two after Tx were hard...they are easier now....be gentle on yourself and enjoy your special day :)
