    Bone scan

Has anyone had a bone scan? I had one a year ago and it was a piece of cake. I go for one Monday and was told it takes 3 hours! Anyone knows what is done to take that long? Tnx

I had one years ago, they gave me a shot, told me to go wander for an hour, then come back. then the scan took about an hour. Don't know what the extra hour would be for, but mine was done years ago. It was an easy, painless procedure, a little unnerving if you're claustrophobic.

The bone scan itself takes 45-60 min, the time they gave you is for the whole procedure. The inject a bit of radioactive martial into your body via a vein in your arm. They need to wait at least 90-120 min for it to be effective - that why they told you 3 hours.

I had a bone scan about 3 years ago. You get an injection of some radioactive material and then told to come back an hour or so later for the scan. It thats that long for the radioactive material to get into the bones I guess. The scan is pretty easy. You have to lay still until they say it is done, maybe 1/2 hour. The picture they get is rather interesting to see. Good luck!
