    Breast reconstruction

I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Inflammatory breast cancer and was told that having reconstruction could hide a recurrence of the cancer. Has anyone with IBC had reconstruction? What type? Any problems?

I had IBC but chose not to have reconstruction. However, I had a medically necsessary tissue flap transplanted from my abdomen to my chest in order to be able to close the wound from surgery and to provide enough skin and tissue for radiation. None of my doctors (medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeon, and plastic surgeon) that I couldn't/shouldn't have reconstruction or that it could hide a recurrence. I think if you are interested in reconstruction you should get a second opinion on that one.

Hi I too have IBC and going for tbe diep flap. I chose this because I didnt want anything foreign on my body. Also my sister who is an eight yr survivor had bad experience with her implants. Best of luck in your decision process.
