I went into remission from leukemia 14 years ago and am now 22 years old. I would say when I think about my experience, I never really worry about it coming back. I still find myself somewhat in awe about the experience in general though. It has definitely shaped my career goals and motivates me to succeed in my endeavors. I am applying to medical school, and lately the application process just excites me to know that hopefully I will be able to help others someday. You have beat the odds...look forward and live like you love every second of it. That's my mindset.

Congratulations on your survivorship! I can't imagine ever getting over that nudge of worry. For me it's been 4 years.

Welcome to the site! I am a 24 year survivor. Was clean for 18 years, I had gotten to the point that I didn't think about it, unless something hurt, then it was always the question, is it back? After 18 years I woke one day to find a lump behind my ear, it was back. That was 4 years ago, and my 3rd go around. I still think about it, every dr's trip or when something hurts. So my answer is yes, you will forget about it for awhile, but it's always there.
Very best of luck to you, may you never go see that dr. again, and never have to be told it's back.

It's been 7 years for me, and I feel the same way that you do. I don't think I will ever get over that feeling.

Hi Yosemitegal, I am a breast cancer survior of 3 years. I have lived with the fear of getting cancer due to the fact that my mom and her sister are breast cancer surviors. My fear came a reality and I know it gets much better but I do not think the feeling really goes away it is always on the back of your mind. Congratulations, try not to worry live each day as if it were your last one and celebrate life.
      Hugs, Tania from Miami, Florida.
