    Cancer Quotes

I saw a quote online this morning that said "Although my life will never be the same because of cancer, it will always be more meaningful". Or how about this one "Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger that whatever tried to hurt you" What are some other quotes you've seen that have been inspiring?

      Footprints is my favorite poem.
When you mentioned scar, it reminded me of when someone said to me "It's too bad you have all those scars now" And I reply; oh no, these are my battle wounds, I am very proud of them!

I love the Goo Goo Dolls and they have a song called Name which is awesome. There is a line in that song which will soon be added to my tattoo collection:
"Scars are souvenirs you never lose."

It's not precisely about cancer, but I think we can all relate.

A friend of Abraham Lincoln wrote and asked him how he liked being President. Lincoln's response was:

"You have heard the story, haven’t you, about the man who was tarred and feathered and carried out of town on a rail? A man in the crowd asked him how he liked it. His reply was that if it was not for the honor of the thing, he would much rather walk."

I am inspired by the poem "Blessing for a friend on the arrival of illness" by John O'Donohue. http://richard.inpointform.net/blog/a-blessing-for-a-friend-on-the-arrival-of-illness/

      This stanza in particular:

      May you use this illness
      As a lantern to illuminate
The new qualities that will emerge in you.

It's a quote my Mother Teressa "I know that G-d would never give me anything I couldn't handle, I just wish he wouldn't trust me so much"

My favorite quote is the simplest of all and can be attributed to just about all cancer patients and thier care givers: "Cnacer Sucks!!!" I also often add "and that is the nicest thing I or anyone can say about it".

Whenever I address a survivors rally, I always say, "I've got cancer but it doesn't have me."

I saw a T-Shirt for Breast Cancer Survivors that said "Yes - these are fake - the real ones tried to kill me". I cannot see myself wearing the shirt but I did see some humor in it.

I am very new to all of this, but some of the best lines I have come across here have had to do with knowing that we are all individuals, not statistics, patients, not files.

JennyMIller, I have that shirt and I wear it proudly. I also have one that says "I survived breast cancer and all I got were these new boobs"

I have two shirts. One my husband bought for me during chemo. It says, "Fight like a girl!" The other one I bought for myself. It says, " Does this shirt make me look bald?" Another tee I saw say," I have chemo brain, what's your excuse?" You gotta laugh when you can and cry when you need to. Hey I just made that saying up. Good luck and God bless each if you and your caregivers!

My 11-year old grandson told me, "Papa, cancer is a word, not a sentence." Helps keeps me in a positive frame of mind throughout the battle.

I have a t-shirt I got from IUPUI Simon cancer center that says "You can't scare me, I'm a cancer survivor". Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

One of my favorite sayings is from a book by Elizabeth Edwards:
      She stood in the storm.
And the wind did not blow her way-
      and it surly did not-
      She simply adjusted her sails.

I got two shirts during my last round of Radiation, one says " I survived a ride on the Linear Accelerator!" the other has a big black spot in the center of the shirt that looks like it's been on fire, the quote says "This is my Radiation Shirt"

One of my favorite quotes is "If God brings you to it, he'll bring you through it." and of course, my personal motto "Life is Good!" Happy Thanksgiving all...be thankful we are all still alive and kicking! And there's always someone way worse off than you are.

      I love this one:
This is my wish for you:
      Comfort on difficult days,
      Smiles when sadness intrudes,
      Rainbows to follow the clouds,
      Laughter to kiss your lips,
      Sunsets to warm your heart,
      Hugs when spirits sag,
Beauty for your eyes to see,
      Friendships to brighten your being,
Faith so that you can believe,
      Confidence for when you doubt,
      Courage to know yourself,
      Patience to accept the truth,
      Love to complete your life.
