    Cancer recurred/came back...

A little under a month ago I went in for a CT/PET scan to see if the treatment I went through would get rid of this darn cancer. Unfortunately, it came back and has now metastasised to my lungs and lymph nodes in my chest. I went from being stage 3 to now stage 4. Now I'm going through 6 more cycles of chemo in the hopes that it will stop, shrink, kill the cancer. If anyone has gone through something similar where the cancer came back or metastasised and you are now at a higher stage than before.....How did you stay positive through this? My faith in God is what is keeping me positive. I guess I'd just like to hear from people who have gone or are going through a similar point in their journey to hear how they coped/dealt with it. Thank you in advance. <3

I am so sorry you have to go through this sending you prayers and hugs. I am not battling two advanced cancers. It is psychologically and physical hard. In 1995 I had a nepherctomy for kidney cancer, and a yearly scan in 2009 reveled that I had 5 small kidney lesions on my liver. I was treated for two and 1/2 years with oral chemo and remained stable. In Sept 2010 a small (just under 1 cm) - triple neg breast cancer tumor was found in by left breast. I had a lumpectomy and radiation, treatment. Unfortunately when I had my 3 month renal cell abdominal scan at the end of April a new 1.5 cm Rim cell lesion was found on my liver and was biopsied as metastasized Trip neg breast cancer. scans indicated that the cancers were only on my liver, with some nodes in lungs I started infusion therapy in May. The first cocktail had mixed results - Kidney cancer remained stable, my slightly elevated breast cancer marker was normal, the lung nodes were gone. but the lesion had grown. I am now on my 2nd cocktail, scans I had last month indicated that both my my cancer are responding. Breast lesion is now smaller then when first discovered in April, and the Kidney cancer which basically stayed the same size (all very very small) are shirking as well. There is so much more information about treating cancer these days, it seems that every time time I speak my oncologists and geneticists (Primary and 2nd opinion/consulting there are newer more effective treatments and tests that can help develop a more targeted plan for each patient). I trust and love my teams, and that really helps me stay positive- though a good cry and yell at the universe and the divine can be cathartic. If you need to, find a therapist who specializes in treating people with cancer, I find that it is very helpful in managing my day to day life. I am also going for a Pharma consult to day to help me deal with the anxiety and depression caused my the meds (they all have these as side effects) as well as the situation. Be kind and love yourself, ask for help. Stay connected.
