Work with your Oncologist as they can help you source a clinical trial..if that is not working then call the NCI to help you or go to the web site of clinical trials . gov
Call an advocacy group since they also know abt. trials.

What has the Onc said when you have told them of all this pain?

Has he tried high doses of the Fentanyl Patches with oxycontin?
Has he done his own research on his situation. WHY isn't HE on the site.
Have him come on over. Can he get POT?

Why hasn't he done his own research? Perhaps he is totally fatigued and barely able to get out of bed some days, as my spouse is. Why isn't he on this site? Perhaps he is not as computer literate as you are, and is happy just to be able to receive and answer emails, as my spouse is. As for pot, perhaps he is opposed to it, or like my spouse, is a grateful recovering alcoholic who would never dream of using such a substance. Please try to find some empathy.

He IS on a 100 mcg Fentanyl Patch and Indocin and Hydrocodone!
He is getting more and more tumors on his spine and ribs. Very painful! Can hardly walk. I am on this site to see how other people are coping with things. He reads emails. He is not one to ask for much help and to try and figure out for himself. That's just the way he is! He looks things up on internet all the time. I asked this question to see if anyone knew firsthand about clinical trials. That is what this site is for right??? I didn't go into detail but if you would read my husbands story you would see he has been fighting this for 6 years! And has tried every treatment that he can. I feel so bad for him! I just thought I'd ask! Sorry barryboomer!

Hospice Docs are the BEST at this and if I were you guys I'd call them up and have them come out to the house to meet with you. See what they say....HE is eligible. A LOT of his symptoms Probably are from the cancer but many could be from the treatments. An Oncologist is NOT the best at treating intractable pain.

I suggest you call "Cancer Treatment Centers" of America. Talk to one of their advisement people -they could easily direct you to one of their specialists. You will have to have all of your medical information available. They treat "cancer that has metastasized" (spread) . If he has been fighting this for 6 years , I'm confident that the both of you have exhausted many of your treatment options. (have tried many options) As far as "Clinical Trials" are concerned - check with their web sites. They should be able to let you know if you qualify for one of their trials. If insurance and money are not an obstacle - be sure to go to a cancer treatment center that would be willing to take you. i.e. 1. Mayo Clinic in Minnesota; John Hopkins; good luck. Other than the above - seek, and I know you already have done this - a "healthcare pain" professional who can provide more medical assistance than you already have. Feel free to tell his story; you are right - this site is also available for emotional support. Check with your "hospice people," they are the specialists who are trained to help in situations like yours. In any case, they will provide you with comfort and emotional support. Enjoy each other's love on a daily basis - this is the most important support in your lives plus all those caregivers who are readily available. (children, friends, etc.)

Has he tried adding Something like 500 mg. of Naproxen every 12 hours or 600 mg of Ibuprofen to the mix. The pills he is taking aren't anti Inflammatory pills. Also has he tried any of the anti inflammatory supplements like high doses of ginger and curcumin in capsules. Oxycontin comes in very high doses in time release that can be tried. I guess he's tried liquid roxonol ? Methadone helps some as well as some SSRI's....Fentanyl patch MAY come in higher doses. A Pain Specialist is good at the mixing and matching and also with nerve blocks and morphine pumps INSIDE the body.
