Could a thyroidectomy affect male fertility?

Someone has asked me about this since I have thyroid cancer, I don't know.

No, a thyroidectomy does not affect fertility but radioactive iodine treatment can. It is usually a temporary effect that can last up to 6 months.

I agree with nancyjac yet at the same time the thyroid has so many important functions for the body that who knows what a TT can cause. Maybe by affected your other body functions fertility is affected.

If hormones are properly regulated that should not be a problem. However, in women if you have difficulty regulating your hormones, I learned that it can send your body into early menopause for women. Also once your reach menopause research is showing women need to be increasingly more aware of their levels because of the effect thyroid medication lack of or to much can have on women post menopause. The thyroid is not called the master gland for nothing.
