    Cravings

Who has had comfort food cravings during the pandemic? I remember cravings for chocolate chip mint ice cream when I was pregnant and I had an absolute obsession for potato salad throughout my chemo treatments. During this time of social distancing and stay at home my husband and I , have demolished five tubs of red licorice and ten loaves of French bread.

For some reason I can't get enough extra toasty Cheez-its. And my neighbor gave me a sourdough starter so I have been experimenting with getting that right (and eating all my *fails*).

Yes! Cookies! I NEED them and must have enough so I don’t run out before one of us buys more. It’s my security blanket these days. I’ve discovered Trader Joe’s delicious cookies. I’d never gone to the one near us. Now I’m hooked.

Bowl of ice cream with Hershey's syrup, either pecan pieces or sliced almonds, Maraschino cherries and a touch of the juice, whipped cream with a few chocolate jimmies on top.

We have been on an Ice cream kick for a few months. It started when I was trying to gain weight before my surgery and possible treatments coming up back in December. Since then I've discovered strawberry cheesecake pudding cups. They are my biggest thing right now.

For me, it is pretty much anything chocolate, and ice cream. I make special trips to the drive-through DQ to keep myself from eating too much at one time. I sure hope that no one here asks the question "how much weight did you gain during the pandemic?" LOL

All this talk about ice cream is prompting me to ask - has everyone tried Moochi's?? If not, you really should, it's like ice cream and sugar cookie dough combined - Amazing! The chocolate sundae ones are my favorites....and strawberry....and vanilla bean...

I am on a restricted diet because of ulceration of the stomach lining. I know, yippee. This is the worst possible time. I am constantly craving foods from the "do not eat" list. The first month wasn't too bad by as time drags on I find myself slipping more and more. I WANT MY CHOCOLATE! Mother's Day I fell off the wagon hard. I had coffee and Boston creme pie with my mom and later pizza with my 2 sisters. I suffered the consequences. What I really want is anything with tomatoes sauce. Oh, for a big bowl of spaghetti! But, it's on the no-no list.

Well, I ordered a case of cherry pie filling to use as a topping. I have to share that with my grandson. My son hates cherries. I also ordered hershey bars with almonds-I'm hiding those.

Really, I want anything sweet, I like breaded and fried, and this sounds stupid, but home made soup.

I'm not having cravings at all. I'm the type that has to practically force myself to eat when I'm upset or anxious - and I've been anxious to varying degrees lately. But I'm working on that!

Prior to shelter-in-place my typical craving would be for a warm, soft-ish chocolate chip cookie. Yum! When I was pregnant (43 years ago) I would eat 3/4 to one whole chocolate cream pie at one sitting - no exaggeration. And I would not feel sick afterwards. Go figure.

I have a strange combo of things I've been wanting. Banana pudding and chocolate chip cookies. Not necessarily at the same time, but I'm not judging!

I notice a constant -- chocolate chip cookies---great choice- yesterday my son baked up a batch. I didn't think that I wanted one-Me brought me a nice warm cookie- and I ate 3-not all at once.. My son and the cookies broke down my resistance.

@Just grateful. I LOVE Banana pudding. I love chocolate chip cookies too. I haven't had a chocolate chip cookie in almost two years. They were the one treat my grandmother always had on hand. We LOVED her cookies. She passed away in 2018 and every time I try to eat one I tear up and have to throw it away.

The thing I am craving at the moment is chicken fajitas, I need some chicken and onions and peppers on a sizzling hot plate with steam coming off. LOL
The craving things I have kept on hand are (1) velveeta cheese dip with rotel tomatoes and of course chips to dip it (2) kalamata olives (3) marinated asparagus spears and ONE sweet treat = the little chocolate mousse cups that our WalMart deli has out. They are my obsession. I can only eat like two of them in a week and that's if I am REALLY having a chocolate craving.

@MarcieB- I am a big fan of the Extra Toasty cheez-its too.

Bug, I, too, find it hard to eat when I’m really anxious, especially about health matters. But somehow the virus is removed enough for me to crave salt and sweetness. I love chocolate cream pie (or coconut)!

      Thanks everyone for sharing.
@MarcieB, I have not tried the toasty Cheese-it’s yet but there is a family size box of Cheese-it’s in my cupboard.
@Molly, I am a big fan of American Chinese food too and have ordered take out several times
throughout this stay at home crisis. Chicken Almond is my favorite.
@Carool, Have you tried the Canadian Maple Sandwich cookies from Trader Joe’s?
      @clinda @andreachea, sounds yummy.
@gregp, love cheesecake and who doesn’t like ice cream? Sending hug and bowls of virtual ice
      cream your way.
@beachbum5817, I will not ask the weight question .I am staying clear of the scale.
@clinda, muffins are always a treat, especially when hubby makes them.
@MarcieB, never heard of Moochi’s here in California. Sounds like we are missing out on
      something.
      @JaneA, Lol.
@BuckeyeShelby, my son in-law inhales those Reese’s Cups.
@Bengal, sorry about your restricted diet. I hope this is temporary. We have all fallen off that
      wagon at times.
@meyati, I hide my Hershey Almond bars in my freezer.
@Bug, I hope you are able to enjoy those warm softish Chocolate Chip cookies again, soon.
@JustGrateful and @legaljen1969, banana pudding? I had not thought about banana pudding for years but your posts bought back pleasant memories of my mom’s homemade banana cream pies. Thanks.

So now as we start opening up America and are able to get out and about in differing degrees, I wonder if my particular cravings for these particular food items will decrease. I wonder this as I am chewing a red licorice from tub number 7 and I have now lost track of how many loaves of French bread we have devoured. Lol.

Everyone hides their candy in the freezer or somewhere in the kitchen. My son was gob smacked the other day, as Levi ate all of Tom's chocolate chips. Tom went out to several stores and found some, but I've been hiding my chocolate's in my closet for awhile.

I don't know if you saw the pinboard photo of Chloe holding Ryder- but she ate my imported cooking chocolates. I caught her and told her and Levi not to eat them- she ate them anyway.

Mine, I paid for them, Mine I baked with them, Mine as the as the cook, floor scrubber, patio-shed builder and yard maintenance. It's my son's house, he is a 100% disabled. With the COVID- I borrowed a thousand dollars to buy food and take care of things. Chloe left April 2019, and I don't miss her. and she was living here with a key. She was pretty good- didn't steal, and then she ate Missy's sweet potatoes. If the family got wiped out- they'd think that I'm nuts. with baking chocolates, chisels that Levi takes and looses-all sorts of odd things hid in my room.

We spent almost $2,000 to find out why Missy was in pain and bleeding off and on from the rear. Her intestinal lining is messed up from being feral and eating cigarettes, chewing gum, and coffee grounds. Then sand and gravel on her kill. She was put on a soft white rice, minced turkey, and sweet potato diet. That was two years ago. Missy seems to be doing well. She lost about 30 pounds. She's happy.

She's blind and deaf, but she jumps on and off the couch, the beds, a patio couch. She runs after the boys in and out of the house to challenge the neighbor's 2 Chihuahuas. She can smell really good. Sometimes she gets goofus. About 3 weeks ago, she decided she should be the pack leader again, and she ran into the door jamb a few times- bounced off her nose. She's following the boys again. .

@Lynne-I-Am, thank you for the tip about the Trader Joe’s cookie! No, I haven’t yet tried it, but I love Canada and maple and will seek out that flavor when I next go to T.J.’s. And maybe find some of the other goodies mentioned in these posts (I, too, avoid weighing myself these days — easy to do since we don’t own a scale!). Enjoy!

@meyati, one thing my partner knows is that one way to infuriate me is to FINISH ALL THE SWEETS IN THE HOUSE. Especially now, when going out food shopping is such an ordeal (and scary, to boot). I go from zero to biyoch in five seconds if I want cookies that were there five hours ago and are gone now. Good thing Chloe is gone.

When Chloe left last May, I was happy. Like I said- I put lots of things in my room. I did give them a melt down version of me about my cooking supplies and Missy's food. I wasn't pleasant-I didn't curse but I was loud and clear, not that it changed anything. .

You must at least TRY a mochi! I spelled it wrong above, there is only on *o* - but, autocorrect keeps changing it to mocha (not the same thing AT ALL). A mochi is a small portion of ice cream inside a rice dumpling type thing - it is a lot like sugar cookie dough .Google it! (better yet, buy a box in the ice cream section of your grocery - I recommend vanilla bean or chocolate sundae)
