I'll have to say I've never heard of Soursop.

Did you also know that it is banned in the United States by the FDA because it is considered poisonous? This is a portion of the alert on the FDA website when you enter Soursop into the search box. It is among data in the first article listed:

"The article is subject to refusal of admission pursuant to Section 801(a)(3) in that it appears to contain a poisonous and deleterious substance which may render it injurious to health [Adulteration, Section 402(a)(1)]."

I would think it is not something to consider lightly, Carm RN.

That is an interesting find. My family is from Jamaica, so we actually eat soursop in various forms. I was unaware it was banned, you can typically find it in certain multi-cultural markets.

Did you know that anybody can lie through their teeth and make any claims they want to about any kind of herbal supplement? The are not under the purview of the FDA or any other regulatory organization.

Carm, I didn't find anything like what you state. In fact, I found that it is grown in Florida, although it likes hotter climates and appears relatively safe as long as not abused. There have been convictions of people who were selling a form claiming it cured cancer. Perhaps that's what you are thinking of.

It is widely available throughout Mexico and the islands and commonly used in desserts etc. It has been/is studied for possible cancer treatment, but is years away from a version that is safe Hasn't even been formulated to be tested in humans yet. It has also been linked to a form of Parkinson's (it causes it) and a rare disease caused by consuming too much of it but apparently you nearly need to live on it for that to occur.

I'll say it again, if there were a magic pill, it would have a label, a stock symbol and a very happy CEO behind it.

Clyde, marijuana is grown all over the U.S. but that does not make it federally legal. I have read the data on this organic and have cited the info found on the FDA Website. I went to the FDA Website and in the searchbox on the top right I typed in soursop. The first article listed is the article I cited. I did NOT look for any correlation to soursop and cancer. I then copy and pasted right off the article. It is used in pesticides from what I have read on the FDA website. If an organic or a chemical compound were proven through studies to cure or affect the disease of cancer in a positive light, it would be a traditional therapy peer reviewed and not considered an alternative or complimentary. There is NO study done that proves or disproves its affect on cancer so any statement is just an hypothesis and not a credible proven theory, at least not in the U. S. however, to be fair, I have not checked the Codex Alimentarium and so I can not say it was not tested in foreign countries, Carm.
