Does anyone experience shortness of breath related to chemo or is it a result of the tumors on my wife's lungs?

My wife is stage IV (lungs, spine, femur, sternum and shoulder). She is on her fifth round of chemo, this time gemcitabene and abraxane. She also has a pleural drain which is now not removing any significant drainage. Does anyone else have shortness of breath after similar chemos with similar matastasis and, if so, how long does it last?

Shortness of breath could be a lot of things. It could be a reaction to the meds (my husband has had that). It could be blood clots (he's had that, too). It could be fluid retention (that, too). Or, it could be the tumors on her lungs.

I'd say you should bring it to the attention of her primary doctor and see what they say.

With Gemzar I had shortness of breath due to a low red cell count - may be something as simple as that.
