I had prostate cancer. The closest support group is 50 miles away in the evening. How does one get one started locally?

Talk to the American Cancer Society for some advice. Is the a hospital close that may have some folks going through the process?

Could try a personal ad to see if any other guys are in the area that want to get together to talk-careful though-set the meeting in a public place to avoid any whacko's out there.

      Thats all I got..

I organize all the support groups at our hospital. If there is no support group near you, contact ACS and see if they have one near you. If not, call Cancer Care and they have online support groups for many different cancers. Check out the national prostate organizations - no names off the top of my head, but one group runs Man to Man. If all else fails, speak to the social worker at your local hospital and find out if they are willing to start a support group. Most support groups should have a trained facilitator - social worker, nurse, healthcare professional or trained survivor. You can just get together with other survivors, but it is tricky to deal with all your emotions, so try the mainstream routes first. Best of luck
