    Experience with ABVD treatment?

I have stage 2A (favorable) hodgkins lymphoma and I am doing ABVD treatment with radiation after chemo. My doctor says I need to have 4 rounds (8 total treatments) I was reading though that if you have stage 1 or 2A, 2 rounds of ABVD would be sufficent. I asked my doctor too if after treatment 4 when the PET scan was done, and the cancer was gone, would we need to do all 8 treatments. He said yes. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this? I do understand that they want to make totally sure the cancer is gone, but it still seems a bit excessive especially with the long term side effects haninging over my head.

HI Jack, I can tell you that during my first treatment for hodgkins, they looked at some scans or Xrays after all but the last treatment was done, and told me no need for the last one.

A couple months later, it was back. So I say take it and be sure, it's easier to go through one complete treatment than it is to go almost all the way, then have to start over again because the first treatment didn't work or was stopped too soon.
