    Experiences with Ifosfamide/Mesna

I was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma in January. Hysterectomy to remove the uterus in January. Separate vaginal tumor removed in June and now a PET scan has found nodules in my lungs. Chemo to begin next week with Ifosfamide//Mesna. What can I expect? What side effects and how did you handle them? Had Taxol and Adriamicin for breast cancer last fall and this spring. Tolerated them both well. Was able to keep working throughout. Will this time be harder?

      Hi Braids,

Here is one conversation from a few months ago dealing with Ifosfamide but not the combination you stated. https://www.whatnext.com/questions/vincristine-ifosfamide-doxorubicin-side-effects

I found the combination to be easy on the body and hard on the tumor. I did not get nausea, there was no change in appetite. Tumor did shrink. I pray it works for you.

I had docetaxol and gemzar so I can't comment on those specific drugs. However, I found Ritalin to be especially helpful in keeping my mind sharp. And I took Claritin and Zantac daily (started in my 8th round of chemo) and those made a HUGE difference in lessening the side effects from chemo. I wish I had known about that combination much earlier. My entire family was in shock about how much better I felt after starting those. Good luck!
