      For some reason, this site won't take my comments under the Recent Site Activity. barryboomer, I thought you would consider a green burial.

      barryboomer, the chemicals used in cremation are very bad for the environment. And you need to be very careful where you put the ashes because when wet they become like cement. In a green burial no chemicals are used, and you are not put in a fancy casket, just a blanket or sheet or wooden box with no nails. Check it out.

      @Schlegel.. what chemicals?

      They use heat from a fire in the cremation chamber.

      Are you concerned about soot?

      Most of us, individually, already have enough cheminals in our bodies from food and air and cosmetics and drugs to kill a small animal or a small village.

      geeking, I do not know exactly what chemicals are used except that they are harmful to the environment. A friend of mine did lots of research on this and chose a green burial. The reason the ashes turn to cement when wet is that the ashes are mostly from bone and very alkaline. I had my brother cremated last year and learned this when we were considering where to put his ashes.
